Warm weather on the way
After a few more days of chilliness, it appears that above-average temperatures will arrive next week. The forecast calls for highs in the 50s by next Thursday, and highs in the 60s on Friday.
The warm spell could stick around for awhile: the 8-14 Day Outlook paints warmer than average temperatures over much of the country.
In the meantime, we have more cold and snow coming this weekend. The computer models have been doing their usual flip-flopping, although it appears we will get some snow Sunday. But probably not a whole lot.
The current probability map -- based on an average of various computer model runs -- shows a 30% chance of seeing at least 2 inches of snow at Cape, with better chances to the north and east.
It appears that some of the precip could fall as sleet or freezing rain, putting a damper on snowfall totals. And by Monday, temperatures could rise enough to convert any remaining precip into plain old liquid rain.
Right now the heaviest moisture is expected to stay to our south, while the heaviest snow (thanks to colder temperatures) is expected to remain to our north.
This is not a particularly favorable setup for a big snowstorm, although a few inches isn't totally out of the question. But there's no reason to go crazy with the BREADCON level. And no matter what we get, any accumulations won't last long thanks to the incoming warmer air mass.
