Get ready for the swamp in Swampeast Missouri
The remants of Tropical Storm Bill should bring heavy rain Friday into Saturday morning, prompting a Flash Flood Watch. The current forecast calls for widespread 2-4 inch totals in Southeast Missouri.
This, of course, will only push the Mississippi River even higher. Every time I check the crest forecast, it goes up. Right now the river at Cape is expected to crest Tuesday morning near 44.5 feet. If this happens, it would be only 4 feet shy of the all-time record of 48.49 set during 1993.
After Bill leaves, a high pressure ridge should bring dry weather and sunshine next week. The bad news, however, is that the lingering moisture from the tropical system will offer way too much humidity.
In this afternoon's discussion, the forecasters at NWS Paducah explain, "UPPER RIDGING IN THE WAKE OF TROPICAL REMNANTS OFTEN LEADS TO HEAT ADVISORIES IF NOT HEAT WARNINGS IN OUR REGION...SO THIS SITUATION WILL NEED TO BE WATCHED CLOSELY."
Thanks a lot, Mr. Bill.
