Two chances for severe storms
We're in the Slight Risk zone today and again tomorrow for severe thunderstorms.
Today:
Tomorrow:
The Hazardous Weather Outlook from the Paducah forecast office explains:
THE STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS OUTLOOKED ENTIRE AREA IN A SLIGHT RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND HAIL WOULD BE THE MAIN HAZARDS. SOME STORMS WILL ALSO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL.
THERE IS A RISK OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND TUESDAY NIGHT OVER THE ENTIRE REGION AS A COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE NORTH. ALTHOUGH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND LARGE HAIL WILL BE THE MAIN STORM HAZARDS...AN ISOLATED TORNADO OR TWO CANNOT BE RULED OUT. SOME STORMS WILL ALSO PRODUCE LOCALLY HEAVY RAINFALL.
Of the two days, tomorrow offers the better chance (70%) of storms.
In addition to severe weather, heavy rain is always a possibility with summer thunderstorms. We're projected to receive 1.25+ of rainfall over the next five days.
Northern Missouri could see even heavier totals, which is bad news for flooding along the Upper Mississippi River. The river stage at Clarksville, Missouri, for example, is forecast to reach within 3 feet of the all-time record.
We're in much better shape at Cape Girardeau, although the river will rise above flood stage this week.
