We're still in the bullseye
As usual, Southeast Missouri is right in the middle of the biggest threat for severe thunderstorms today. We're under a Moderate Risk.
The biggest concern is tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center has put us in the "red zone" indicating a 15% chance that we will see a tornado within 25 miles of a point. We're also in the dreaded hatched zone, indicating a 10% chance of seeing a strong (EF2+) tornado within 25 miles of a point.
We know this system means business. An "appetizer" round of storms already dropped a tornado in the St. Louis suburb of University City early this morning.
High winds are also a threat. We have a 45% chance of seeing severe-level winds within 25 miles of a point.
To complete the trifecta of trouble, we also face a threat of flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portion of Southeast Missouri (including Cape Girardeau County). They advise that "AT LEAST TWO OR THREE ADDITIONAL ROUNDS OF THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TODAY AND TONIGHT."
