Get ready for cabin fever in 5...4...3...
Now that the snow has ended, we have to contend with the ridiculous cold air. The forecast low for tonight is 6°F with a wind chill that might drop to -10°F.
The good news is that our next system is looking more like a non-event for Southeast Missouri, although that could change.
However, the sleet/snow/ice/whatever on the ground isn't going to melt anytime soon. We should remain near or below freezing through late next week. As a result, it won't take long -- if it hasn't happened already -- for the chatter on social media to reach the next stage of the Winter Storm Posting Cycle:
Winter Storm Posting Cycle
Stage 1. "Hey, the long-range models suggest we might get something next week. Cool."
Stage 2. "Forecast still looks interesting, better buy some milk just in case."
Stage 3. "Oh crap it looks bad, better go buy a month's supply of bread before everybody else does."
Stage 4. "Have you seen the latest NAM model? 16 inches!?!"
Stage 5. "It's so awesome out! I hope we get another foot! I love winter."
Stage 6. "I am so sick of this [expletive] snow. Make it go the [expletive] away! I hate winter! [additional expletives]"
(after a few weeks)
Stage 1. "Hey, the long-range models suggest we might get something next week. Cool."
