Another heckuva cold front coming; Tornado Watch in effect
We seem to be stuck in a pattern of severe storms > strong cold front > frost > pleasant weather > repeat.
As our next cold front -- and squall line -- approaches, we're under a Moderate Risk of Severe Storms as well as a Tornado Watch today.
The Tornado Watch covers a huge area: Southeast Missouri, Southern Illinois, extreme Western Kentucky, and most of Arkansas. It's in effect until 5 PM.
The absolute worst weather seems to be centered to our northeast, where a "PDS" Tornado Watch (Particularly Dangerous Sitaution) is in effect for much of Indiana. Let's hope we can avoid any PDS hotboxes in our region today.
Nevertheless, our storms could bring tornadoes as well as wind gusts to 75 mph. The squall line will arrive this afternoon, but we could potentially see isolated supercells pop up ahead of the line (although this hasn't happened so far on radar).
Outside of the storms, we're also under a Wind Advisory for wind gusts reaching 45 mph. The Cape Girardeau airport has already recorded a gust of 38 mph today.
Once the cold front passes through, temperatures will plunge, dropping into the low to mid 30s for Friday night. That could bring frost or even a light freeze in sheltered locations.
After a pleasant weekend with warming temperatures, we could see another round of storms next week. Lather, rinse, repeat.
