Here comes Hermine
Over the weekend, Tropical Storm Hermine formed out of nowhere and then slammed into southern Texas. If the storm had been able to stay over the warm waters of the Gulf for several more hours, it may have strengthened into a hurricane.
Hermine is now marching northward through Texas. The five-day precipitation forecast clearly shows the route of Hermine's remnants:
In Missouri, the heaviest rain is expected to fall along the Springfield-St. Louis axis, just missing Southeast Missouri. However, Cape Girardeau is squarely within the lighter blue bands on the map, suggesting we could see at least an inch this week.
Thanks to the tropical moisture that Hermine is pumping our way, the clear skies and low humidity of the last few days will be replaced by air-that-you-wear and a daily chance of thunderstorms.
The long-range guess forecast for September-October-November paints Southeast Missouri right in the bullseye for below-average precipitation. What else is new?
