Last gasp of winter?
Friday Update: It looks like we dodged the bullet, as temperatures barely dropped into the upper 30s. The low at the Cape airport was 39.
The National Weather Service has issued a Frost Advisory for tonight as temperatures will hover in the mid-30s with light winds, setting the stage for some patchy frost.
Here's the advisory:
A FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM TO 9 AM CDT FRIDAY FOR ALL OF SOUTHEAST MISSOURI...EXCEPT FOR MISSISSIPPI COUNTY.
LIGHT TO CALM WINDS...CLEAR SKIES...AND SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE WILL SET THE STAGE LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY FRIDAY MORNING FOR FROST FORMATION. PATCHY FROST MAY OCCUR ELSEWHERE OVER THE HEARTLAND...BUT THE GREATEST THREAT TO VEGETATION WILL BE OVER SOUTHEAST MISSOURI AT THIS TIME.
* TEMPERATURE...SHOULD FALL INTO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER 30S NO LATER THAN 2 AM CDT...AND REMAIN IN THE 30S THROUGH AT LEAST 8 AM CDT.
* IMPACTS: THE FROST MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT TENDER OUTDOOR VEGETATION AND SENSITIVE EARLY SEASON CROPS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A FROST ADVISORY MEANS THAT FROST IS POSSIBLE. SENSITIVE OUTDOOR PLANTS MAY BE KILLED IF LEFT UNCOVERED. OUTDOOR PETS MAY NEED TO BE BROUGHT INSIDE.
Hopefully this will be the last brush with Old Man Winter this season, although there's always an outside chance of a frost until late April.
