Winter Weather Advisory for "Duffman"
Duffman can never die, only the actors who play him. Oh yeah!-- today's irrelevant quote from The Simpsons
Darn that Murphy's Law. I just posted a blog that Winter Storm "Duffman" was shaping up to be a dud, and then the National Weather Service has to go and issue a Winter Weather Advisory for Cape Girardeau and surrounding counties, making me look like an idiot.
Here's the text of the bulletin:
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PADUCAH HAS ISSUED A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM CST TUESDAY.
LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WILL DEVELOP AND EXPAND NORTH ACROSS THE ENTIRE AREA TONIGHT. WHILE THE PRECIPITATION WILL REMAIN VERY LIGHT...IT WILL BE FALLING INTO AIR THAT IS BELOW THE FREEZING MARK. THIS WILL RESULT IN LIGHT ICING OF AREA ROADWAYS...ESPECIALLY ELEVATED SURFACES AND BRIDGES AND OVERPASSES...WHERE THE PAVEMENT TEMPERATURE MAY BE BELOW FREEZING EVEN IF THE AIR TEMPERATURES IS ABOVE.
IT WILL BE COLDEST NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER...AS THE ABOVE 32 DEGREE AIR SURGES NORTH ACROSS WESTERN KENTUCKY LATE TONIGHT INTO EARLY TUESDAY MORNING. BY MID MORNING TUESDAY...THE PRECIPITATION WILL BE DIMINISHING...AND AIR TEMPERATURES WILL BE NEAR OR ABOVE FREEZING IN MOST LOCATIONS.
BE AWARE OF THIS POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS ICING PROBLEM OVERNIGHT...AND MAKE THE APPROPRIATE CAUTIONARY TRAVEL PLANS.
I still don't think Duffman is going to be a big deal, but as we've seen with previous systems, it doesn't take much freezing rain to make a real mess. By popular request, here's the dartboard forecast:
