Spama-Not
They've survived killer rabbits, insulting French soldiers and an encounter with the Black Knight, but it took a blizzard in the upper Midwest to stop the touring company of Spamalot that was scheduled to appear at the River Campus last night.
Damn.
I had tickets to the show and really good seats, row A of the Orchestra Section in the center. That was either the first or third row depending on if there was temporary Orchestra Pit seating for the show. In either case, they were still excellent seats. I was online ordering them the second they went on sale to the general public this past summer. I was ecstatic with my choice of seats. I didn't even mind paying the $6.50 Metrotix "processing fee" per seat, which -- of course -- won't be refunded due to the cancellation. C'est la vie.
I've been wanting to see Spamalot for several years. I had the chance in New York and Las Vegas, but didn't. When I found out that a touring company of the show was coming to the River Campus and tickets were only going to be $50 I thought it was a heck of a deal.
But then the text alert came across my phone about four, yesterday afternoon:
Spamalot canceled.
No Black Knight. No surly French soldiers. No having to explain Monty Python jokes to my wife. I suppose that is the one positive aspect of the cancellation.
It's very difficult to say why a French soldier yelling, "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries" is funny.
It just is.
