  • Excellent idea. Advertising for Schnucks would provide excellent exposure for the store and as a sidelight we could have famous quotes of Schnucks' store manager, Dennis Marchi. After all, the Southeast Missourian prints a quote from Marchi for every important event and happening. Understandable, since being a grocery store manager gives one a wide perspective and expertise on community affairs, politics, law, infrastructure, growth. etc. I am sure the city's population lives for these and craves more words of wisdom.

  • Has anyone questioned Dobbie about the vandalism? He does have access to the Dome and it does resemble a huge piggy bank. In these times you do have to be creative in fund raising. Hey, fountains are expensive to operate.

  • Not a bad idea, Brad. You didn't mention it, but thats a round dome and they can sell 360 degree advertising. Like, you know, 3-D! Since as you say the dome can be seen for miles and miles away from every direction, just think of the the added advantage and sales point. Then they could go one even better, they can offer the advertising in lighted words using thousands of electric lights. Sorta like those floating GoodYear gas bags at football games, which come to think of it could be a tie in. Think of the money to be raised. Maybe the University could buy their own gas bag and work out a deal with the casino if it ever gets to town. Wow, oh Golly Gee!

  • I think the students or their parents will need the Mad Dog 20/20 when they get the bill for next year.

  • Good point, Me'L - about becoming numb to excessive advertising.

During the time I lived in a dry county in KY - each time I crossed the bridge into Cape, the number of alcohol sale banners splashed everywhere really stood out as harsh. Good grief, has my hometown become a bunch of cheap-booze alkies, or what?

Suggest if SEMO wants to advertise something - perhaps 'highest graduation percentage' or 'highest percentage of graduates parading out of our hallowed halls with a job in hand' would be something to advertise about? Ah, if it were only true. :-)~

  • Despite all the bells and whistles added to SEMO since Pres. Scully's retirement, how has Cape (and the Bootheel) benefitted? Every parcel the school takes over shrinks the taxable property base, increasing the load on those that remain.

I know the current administrators want to leave a legacy to themselves, I simply object to being forced to foot the bill.
