Welcome to my first blog
Welcome to my blog.
Some blogs are specialized where the bloggers talk about topics that they are experts on such as movies or politics. Don't expect that here. While I might be considered an "expert" in some fields or have intense interest in others, I don't want to bore you with rants on the same subject day after day.
I think that would kind of get tedious both for reader and writer. Consider this more of a generalist topic kind of blog, where I might just talk about any subject that comes to mind.
I used to write a column 20 years ago when I was in college using this same column name. Some people felt it was humorous, some not. It was what it was.
Who knows where this blog might wind up. I definitely don't. I'm using this for as much an exercise in working out the old noggin. They say to fight off the eventual decline of old age you should work out your body and your mind. My writing over the past two decades has been basically restricted to basic instructions on how to use the computer technology du jour, or emails related in some form or fashion to work. Basically, boring crap that mentally is not very aerobic.
Here are some ground rules, I'm setting for myself and this blog:
1. I will strive for originality. This might be quite difficult in this overly connected and often over-informed world we live in. I've lost track of the number of times I've heard the same basic topical joke told on The Daily Show, Letterman, and Leno.
2. If I find something on the web or in print or on TV that I find mentionable or worth repeating, I will tell you so and give the appropriate attribution. No plagiarizing from me, no sirree.
3. I will try to keep to keep it brief. Everyone is busy with work, family, and just living life, myself included. I will try to keep entries to about a page or no more than 500 words. That should be manageable for both me as a writer and you as a reader.
4. At least 1 blog entry a week. Perhaps more. I'm kind of rusty as a writer.
Here's a little about me.
Married almost 15 years - to the same person. No kids - by choice. We own a cat or a cat owns us. That's debatable. I have a knack for beating computers into submission, which might explain why I have spent my career working with technology in printing and newspapers even though I have a degree in mass communications. Yes, I work for the Southeast Missourian. No, I have absolutely nothing to do with its editorial content, except for this blog.
