As I compile the Out of the Past column for the Southeast Missourian or research topics for this blog, I keep an eye out for interesting stand-alone photos, tucking them away in a folder for future use.
I find I have more than enough to assemble a blog of the photos. Hope you enjoy.
I've been doing a lot of research in recent days into the early fire trucks used by the city of Cape Girardeau. The truck was built here.
This photo appealed to the genealogist in me.
As did this one.
The Rev. Owen Whitfield, pictured below, was instrumental in organizing the sharecroppers strike in the 1930s. The photo was published Nov. 13, 1939.
My dad was a hunter, and Big Island near Commerce, Missouri, was one of his spots for hunting geese.
