Doyle's Hat Shop closed after 101 years in business
In a recent blog -- http://www.semissourian.com/blogs/fromthemorgue/entry/45965/ -- I featured a 1939 Missourian article that dealt with the 75th anniversary the Walther Furniture store, and several other stores that were among the longest running retail establishments in Cape Girardeau history.
I thought it might be interesting to give you more detailed histories for those other businesses.

The story has a number of errors that were corrected in a Feb. 17, 1973, article that is part of The Missourian's "Old-House Series." The series, written by Sally Wright Brown, now Sally Owen, is a must-read for anyone interested in Cape Girardeau history.
Here's that story, minus two of the photos that ran with it. The photo at the beginning of this blog was published with the 1973 article.
