State College swimming coach LaVerne Lauxman, right, talks with veteran members of the Indian tank squad prior to the 2 p.m. opening of MIAA swim championships today. Five conference members--Cape Girardeau, Maryville, Warrensburg, Springfield and Rolla--are competing in the two-day meet at the Indians' Olympic-sized pool. Swimmers above are: front, Ron Anfinson; back, Mark Copper, left, and Charles Young.
The 1971 MIAA swim championships were held in the swimming pool in Parker Hall. By 2003, the swimming pool was closed. The area was filled in and renovated to provide new space for printing and duplicating. The university built the aquatic center for swimming activities next to the Show Me Center.
