Erlbacher Foundry

Posted Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at 12:00 AM

Balthaser "Bill" Erlbacher, a native of New Wells, established a foundry and machine shop on North Main Street in about 1906, cutting the massive beams for the building himself out of sycamore. The foundry was acquired in 1936, and after modernization, was reopened by a St. Louis firm. The building was torn down in 1966 to make way for the Missouri Employment Security Office.
