Jan. 30, 1962 Southeast Missourian
Sen. Albert M. Spradling Jr., a member of the Mississippi River Parkway Commission, and Mrs. Edna Bowen of Lancaster, Wis., public relations director for the Great River Road, pose here beside one of the pilot-wheel markers designating Highway 61 as a temporary route for the Canada to Gulf highway. Mrs. Bowen was in Cape Girardeau Monday and will be in southeast Missouri this week to acquaint people with the significance of the scenic road along both sides of the Mississippi. The temporary designations were placed on Highway 61 and Highway 67 in Missouri last week. This is the fifth state to mark the Pines to Palms route. (G.D. Fronabarger photo)
