Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Fast-Draw Contest

A fast-draw contest was one of the events held at the first gun show sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Jaycees, Jan. 30-31, 1960 at the Arena Building.

G.D. Fronabarger shot a picture of these contestants.

In 1960, there were no knockoff Colt revolvers,bet they were both armed with Colt Single action Model 1873's. Usingthe Colt SAA as an example, I can prove there is no such thing as inflation. In 1873, you could buy a new Colt SAA for a $20 gold piece. You can still buy a new Colt SAA for a $20 gold piece.
