Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

We know nothing about this picture by G.D. Fronabarger.

MYSTERY PHOTO UPDATE:

The Pepsi truck wreck mystery photo is solved.

While not solved, the mule team mystery photo showing Quality Market may have been taken in Fornfelt, now known as Scott City.

We found this ad in the June 1, 1945 Southeast Missourian:

Yeah - that ol' sow on the bank is priceless !!! I think he's using an old gigging fork...they had these before the clamp type was commonly used. Yeah, a fork - gruesome, but true...But, it caint be for frogs in that depth of water and that time of day - may have been gigging for carp or other fish?? And check out the two dandies over on the left, an argyle sweater in the summer and the other in a fine brimmed straw hat !!
