Southeast Missourian, May 18, 1961

Where youngsters once swam there's now a formal garden. The River Hills Garden Club is creating a formal garden on the site of the old swimming pool at Capaha Park. Members of the club designed the attractive layout shown here. Members working on the plot Monday were Mrs. W.E. Walker Jr., Mrs. L.S. Bunch, Mrs. R.B. Potashnick, Mrs. C. Roy Rudolph, Mrs. L.W. Simmons, Mrs. E.H. Cadwallader, Miss Ione Hirsch. (Photo by G.D. Fronabarger)

Here are pictures taken in 2010 of the old pool site.

  • This is where my brother and I use to swim every summer! We moved away in 1958 and we never got a chance to swim in the "new" (now "old," or should I say "no-more") swimming pool. I'm sorry I didn't get to swim in that "new" ("old") swimming pool - it looked beautiful and you could actually see the bottom of the pool! The thing I remember the most about the old oval swimming pool was that the water looked like it was piped from the Mississippi River, but who cared ... it was heaven to us kids!
