Fred Lynch retired in 2018 after capturing images for the Southeast Missourian since 1975, in that time moving from black-and-white to color, from film to digital and to video. The blog title is a nod to an earlier era of news photography and the 4x5 Speed Graphic: It's more important to be there for the shot than to worry about technical details.

Former oval pool is formal garden 1961

Where youngsters once swam there's now a formal garden. The River Hills Garden Club is creating a formal garden on the site of the old swimming pool at Capaha Park. This is where my brother and I use to swim every summer! We moved away in 1958 and we never got a chance to swim in the "new" (now "old," or should I say "no-more") swimming pool. I'm sorry I didn't get to swim in that "new" ("old") swimming pool - it looked beautiful and you could actually see the bottom of the pool! The thing I remember the most about the old oval swimming pool was that the water looked like it was piped from the Mississippi River, but who cared ... it was heaven to us kids!
