The Hustle and Bustle
Jaycee members have been busy the past couple of weeks. Caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, the Toybox and Christmas for the Elderly projects are at the top of their list with delivery dates quickly approaching! There is still so much to do -- Santa's "bags" to be filled, "sleighs" to be loaded and Christmas joy to be spread throughout our community. With over 370 families combined, it is not a small task. As you are out and about in the upcoming week, please consider contributing with toy, elderly or monetary donations. We thank those who have already crossed us off your Christmas List with your generous giving.
Mr. "P" is raising two daughters on his own. Their mother is currently in a rehabilitation center working to get her life back on track so she can return and care for her girls. Raising two pre-teen daughters is not an easy task, it is even more difficult when you are a daddy, doing it alone, and working to support your family, who on one income, are struggling to make ends meet. "Chloe" is a 10 year old who loves all things PINK! A scarf and mittens, makeup, a warm blanket, and jewelry making crafts top her list, while her sister, "Abby", age 12, would like arts and crafts supplies, a boombox with CDs and warm accessories for the winter season. This is one of many families with children that rely on the generosity of others during the holiday.
Ms. "C" suffered from a spinal injury and must depend on others to take care of her most basic needs. On a fixed income, she relies on her disability check to help pay for her care. This Christmas she would like a new bed spread and sheets for her Twin bed. A warm housecoat, size 3X, and house shoes, size 11, to keep her warm this winter, and nightgowns, size 3X. Ms. "C" shops at Save-A-Lot and Walmart for her groceries, cleaning supplies, and toiletries and would benefit from gift cards to these locations.
Other needs for the programs include:
Toys for girls ages 1-2
Gifts for girls ages 10-12
Gifts for boys ages 10-12
Grocery Gift Cards
Gloves and Scarfs for the Elderly
Toilet Paper and Paper Towels
Toiletries
Monetary Donations are always appreciated!
Thank you for your continued support of the Jaycee Christmas Projects!
(Donations may be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian on Broadway or other area businesses, please see full list at semissourian.com)
