Toys for Struggling Families
While many of us look forward to the joy of Christmas every year, celebrating with family and friends and giving and receiving gifts, for some the Christmas season brings with it worry and stress. How do you pay for gifts for your children when Dad has lost his job, medical expenses have piled up, or there is no work to be found to support the cost of living for your family?
The families of the Jaycee Toybox are facing many of these trials and more. "Daniel" was laid off his factory job when budget cuts released the newest employees hired on with the company. After months of seeking unemployment, he believed that he had found a good thing that offered stability and longevity. Luck was not on his side...4 months later, he was laid off again. With limited unemployment and no immediate work to be found to support his family of five, "Daniel" had to turn to local agencies for help this holiday season. That is where the Jaycee Toybox jumps in to help!
"Daniel" has two beautiful little girls, ages 4 and 7, who love to play with baby dolls. They would like to have new baby dolls with clothes for them, strollers and bottles to feed their little ones. He has a young man, age 10, who enjoys football and the outdoors. "Daniel" worries about his son saying, "I want to be an example for him. It is hard for me to let him see me struggle. He doesn't ask for much because at his young age, he knows we don't have it."
This is one of many stories that fill our files with the Jaycee Toybox. With less than two weeks to go until delivery, the demand is up with 50+ more applications this year and right now - donations are down. Please add us to your Christmas list and get your gifts in for the children of our community today!
