Ownership vs Guardianship
I have made my feelings clear in the matter of the movement toward removing ownership status of dogs and replacing it with guardianship. I will stand and fight the devil himself to ensure that does not happen. My reason for this stance is the fact that property cannot be seized without due process. This is covered under the 14th Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.
The past few weeks I have watched as a dear friend has dealt with the consequences of “guardianship” in the matter of children removed from the custody of their parents. If I had any doubts about the wisdom of my stand against guardianship status in the matter of my dogs, trust me, watching this has solidified my feelings.
As a little background, the children in this scenario were taken from their parents and sent to the home of a relative. They have had little stability in their short lives. They went to the home of a woman who has no shortage of compassion or love to share. She is a parent in all sense of the word. She is also the director of a shelter which means she is no stranger to opening her heart and home to those with the greatest need. She stands and speaks for those with no voice.
For three months, these children have known the love and stability of a home filled with love. They have experienced what it means to be part of a solid family unit for the first time in their lives. They have been happy, well cared for and truly loved.
Enter the Division of Family Services and one woman who does not like pets and apparently is unable to comprehend the lessons in compassion learned by homes filled with this level of love. She is also either unaware or blind to the numerous studies relating to the therapeutic benefits of pets in relation to children who have experienced the level of instability the children in this entry have lived with during their short lives.
Despite this woman’s efforts to cause problems by calling in the Department of Agriculture, to thwart Missouri state statute, she has stood firm in her belief that pets have no emotions, therefore dumping them should be no issue in the matter of accommodating her personal feelings. She has basically held these children hostage to impose her will on the one person who stepped up to insure the welfare of these children.
I am not a parent and I am not a cat person. I have watched this unfold from the perspective of someone who guards her Constitutional right to responsibly own the dog of her choice. During this farce, I have seen firsthand what happens when biased individuals can dictate policy in the matter of something they have no actual knowledge of and refuse to see the truth.
I will never understand how any reasonably intelligent person could destroy a home simply because they can. How do you live with yourself and look at yourself in the mirror every day after you have pulled a crying child from a closet? This is an image burned into my brain. As someone with the empathy which called me to the path of taking a stand for animals, I find this sickening.
Now consider how this would relate to the American Pit Bull Terrier. Is there any other dog breed surrounded by more outright lies and animosity? If the animal rights groups have their way, the government will be free to walk into your home and remove your pets simply because they can. It will not matter if these pets are cared for and loved, they are a targeted breed and just as these groups so proudly proclaim, will be eliminated in three years if the animal rights agenda can have its way.
The notion of guardianship has been promoted to take at risk animals from abuse/neglect situations. The reality of this is that ALL dogs will be at risk of seizure on the whim of those with no actual knowledge of breeds or reality beyond what the liars have feed them.
You think this is not possible? Consider the three human sisters who just had their entire world destroyed on the whim of one person with zero knowledge of owning pets. If these government agencies will do this to children, what makes you think your pets will be safe?
Now I pray for sanity to intervene on the part of these children. I also pray this nation wakes up to the reality of removing the only Constitutional protection our pets enjoy. If I was adamant about my stand against guardianship before, my resolve is even stronger after watching the event with these children. No government agency should be allowed to destroy lives on a whim!
