Gratitude
I am driving the scenic flood route, trying to remember yes, it does take longer to get to town and work than normal. The Coonhounds - Hoss, Sadie and Hickory Dock - are at the spa known as Busch's Kennel due to the loss of land vs water in our acreage - plus they were very noisy with the neighbors going to and fro from their vehicles in front of our home. The boats are set right across the road from the new Field Lake. For some reason, the dogs are not understanding well when I tell them "these are our neighbors, they are just trying to stay home as much as they can with all this water...." What they hear - "blahblahblahblah..." and they see & smell abnormal activity which must be alerted! Sigh. So, off went the Coonies. Bill and Cecile are so good with them and enjoy the hound-song.

I finally asked for help today. I was up half the night trying to bail out the water in my basement after I no longer heard the sump pump. I don't know how everyone has been experiencing our 2011 Flood but the outside water here waxes and wans, not unlike the moon, though more frequently. I was really hoping to make it through without basement problems but not to be. Kent and Gloria came over today and we put blocks under my washer and dryer. THANK YOU! They at least are now out of the water. Yes, A., the sump pump has been plugged in all this time - it truly was overwhelmed. Ahem - the blocks came from along the fence so no Beagles had better dig out in that area for a long time! Do you think they heard me? Nah, didn't think so.
As I bunched errands together this morning, I stopped for gas. A line formed as the teller was dealing with a problem. Moaning, talk of going somewhere else, why is it taking so long, ad nauseum. I spoke up: "WE have gas, we have homes, we have our lives unlike many of our fellow citizens in the Deep South after the tornadoes. Please, count your blessings." I didn't yell, I wasn't snotty nor sarcastic but goodness, let us be grateful - waiting a short time in line is nothing compared to what others are enduring and whom they are mourning. Click here for footage to the immediate aftermath of the Tuscaloosa tornadoes.
I am grateful today - for two very good friends who gave me reassurance and confidence this morning, for the Busch's being so willing to take in my Coonies at the last minute and for my church friends who drove in 45 min. to help me in my basement. God bless us all as we recover and move on from this spring of sturm und drang.
Right now, as I finish this, I again hear thunder and have Sheila Sheltie, my major thunderphobe, at my feet. Rain, rain, go away - come again another month...er, not May.
