Margie and the Home Show

This past weekend was the time of the Home and Garden Show in Cape G.  It is retailers, hobbyists, gardeners, and dog/cat rescues plus others getting together to let people know we are here and what we have for the community as spring starts. Margie was at the Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary booth on Friday.  Silverwalk was able to share a corner, which is all we needed.  I helped man it w/Alice and Sherry on Friday as I worked both Sat and Sun DAY shifts.  Let me say with full confidence - Margie the Mutt Puppy, dumpster diving rescuee, was a HIT.  She never met a stranger, LOVED children, tried to play w/other dogs.  What I particularly found fascinating about her was her very astute response to the other dogs.  If they gave her a growl, she gave them a submission; she saw a friend's dog staring at her and tucked her tail and head - later, they made friends.   She did the same w/a Greyhound - they both ended up wanting to play.  Margie LOVES; she is able to adapt herself to win over any stranger - dog or human.

I did NOT have her there to adopt out - nope, she is my puppy for my old age,  I hope and pray.  I had her there to share her story of being saved from a dumpster at 7 weeks old, showing what a wonderful dog this "throwaway" is.  God spare the person who put her in that dumpster.   However, there were numerous people who would have taken her home!  Thanks always to her late rescuer, Margie, and to Debi, who gave her to me to adopt out, knowing I would not.

We had a very good response at Safe Harbor and all the rescue booths.  My friend, Melanie Coy, manned the MAAL booth (Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation).  It featured the photos winners of last year and this year.  One prominent photo was Spanky the day she was first found and seen in the woods.  I wept, as I do now writing this.  

Stacy had her Busch Pet Products booth there, Marilyn was there w/ACE and Bollinger County Stray Project, HSSEMO had puppies, Greyhounds had one to adopt....We had a very good representation of rescue/sanctuary/shelters, products and animal welfare. 

 For your calendars, Margie's birthday will be celebrated June 21 - she will be one year old.  She is accepting cards, emails, comments to this blog and Dog Blessed @ Silverwalk, etc.  Anyway you choose, in thought, prayer, or good wishes - please remember Margie and all the thrown away dogs who light up or could light up the world - June 21.  Margie says "The best way to celebrate my birthday is to adopt a dog in need!"  You will be blessed. CELEBRATE.
