Girl Scouts of the USA mark 90 years

The Girl Scouts of the United States of America this month is celebrating 90 years of instilling young women with the values and confidence they need to achieve their goals.

The organization has a rich history that began with Juliette Gordon Low and 18 girls March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Ga. Since then, it has grown to 3.7 million girls in 140 countries around the world. It is a picture of diversity and inclusion.

And while the basic foundation of teaching girls the life skills they need has remained solid, the Girl Scouts organization has changed with the times, recognizing that today's girls face world situations and challenges their great-grandmothers couldn't have imagined.

To that end, leaders have added badges in Global Awareness, Adventure Sports, Stress Less and Environmental Health.

Congratulations are in order for this special year and the successful years that no doubt are to follow.
