Halloween safety

If you are a parent of a young child, you've probably already made plans for Halloween on Wednesday.

For some children it's all about the costumes, dressing up like a super hero, ballerina or any number of other characters. And don't forget about the candy.

While we hope everyone has a fun night, please be safe. Here are a few suggestions for parents:

* Accompany your child if you plan to trick-or-treat and make sure you both can be seen by cars. Flashlights and reflective tape on costumes is recommended.

* If you're driving, please watch out for pedestrians.

* Limit your trick-or-treating to those you trust.

* Make sure all candy is factory-wrapped.

* Don't forget about your pets. If you have an outside pet, consider bringing it inside.

A good option for the night is to visit a fall festival or trick-or-treat event at a local church. These are good events with candy, games and a family-friendly environment.

If your church or organization is hosting an event Wednesday night, please visit semoevents.com to list it.

We hope you enjoy the evening, but please make it a safe one. Unfortunately there are those who choose not to act responsibly, so be watchful.
