Missouri Caregiver Receives National Recognition

Oklahoma City, OK (June 28, 2012) A Missouri caregiver received national recognition at The National Association of Health Care Assistants (NAHCA) 18th Annual "Key To Quality" Awards banquet. The event was held Thursday, June 28, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This annual celebration was held to recognize the accomplishments and exemplary contributions of caregivers and organizations across the nation. The association presented awards in 22 categories selected from over 36,000 members. These awards are given to recipients that exemplify the best qualities in the continuum of care.

The "Professional Appearance" Award recipient was Lois Withers of the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau . This award is given to a CNA or direct caregiver who sets standards for appropriate duty apparel. The member is recognized for their ability to dress for success as a caregiver and for displaying pride in their work through professional dress and appearance. During the award introduction for Lois it was said "If you look and act professional, there is a good chance you are a professional and Lois fits right into that category. Pressed and fresh, clean and coordinated, she is always dressed for the season. Her appearance instills confidence in the residents and families that she will pay the same attention to their needs. Lois sets the standard for all and is an excellent example of how a professional caregiver should look."

NAHCA has worked closely with facilities across the country to recognize the valuable humanitarian service of CNAs and to improve the quality of health care in long term care facilities. NAHCA co-founders, Lisa Cantrell and Lori Porter, have bridged the gap between caregivers and facilities promoting recognition, education and motivation with its staff.
