Eagle Scout Awarded To Local Youth

Chance Ziegler

On May 5th,2011 Chance Nolan Ziegler of Troop 4016 of Cape Girardeau, Missouri satisfactorily completed the requirements and was certified as an Eagle Scout of the Boy Scouts of America. Ziegler's project consisted of building a freestanding wall of brick. Which rests upon a level excavated foundation of sand and gravel, also a secondary project was underway of building a cellar door. These projects were requests of the Glenn House which is owned and operated by Historical Association of the Greater Cape Girardeau Area. To achieve completion of his project, he had several fundraisers to offset the financial cost of the project. The largest fundraising event took place at the River Campus on October 2nd, 2010. The activities of the day included games, a silent auction, food, music, and guest speakers that included Bonnie Chaudoir, and Lt. Governor Peter Kinder. This final fundraiser netted Ziegler enough funds to complete his Eagle Scout Project, which consisted of 210 hours of labor and planning.

Ziegler began scouting on May 8, 2008 after receiving his arrow of light , and crossing over from Cub Scout Pack 4017. Since then he has achieved 72 Merit badges, attended the 2010 National Jamboree, National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), Order of the Arrow ( Brotherhood), attended Indian Summer 2011,he has received the Baptist Religious Award: God and Church, the World Conservation Award, Den Leadership Award, and Trails End Popcorn Scholarship Award.

He has expanded his scouting interests and is currently a Native American Pow-wow Dancer for Venture Crew 4248. Also he will attend Philmont, and National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC) this summer.

On October 20th,2011 an Eagle Scout Court of Honor was conducted for Ziegler by his home Troop 4016. This consisted of a dinner and being symbolically accepted by the troop as an Eagle. The dinner was prepared and provided by Elks Lodge 639, many members of his troop, family, and guests attended to help celebrate his achievement. Chance is the fourteen year old son of Walter and Linden (Mize) Ziegler, he the grandson of the late Joe and Oneida (Daniel) Ziegler of Benton, Missouri, the maternal grandparents are Kenneth and Carol Jean (Clark) Mize of Villa Ridge, Illinois.

As stated by Ziegler "I truly appreciate all who helped me in my endeavors, a special thanks to my parents, it could not have become a reality without the volunteering of many family, friends, and troop. I especially want to mention the generous contributions of local businesses and residents. Many thanks to everyone, especially to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."

Ziegler attends Lynwood Baptist Church, and is a Freshman at Jackson High School. Outside of scouting Ziegler is a member of the Jackson Freshman Band and of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).
