SEMO football

Over the past month many of us have been wearing red and supporting the St. Louis Cardinals on their way to a World Series Championship. But there's another team wearing red that also deserves our support.

The Southeast Missouri State University football team is coming off a tough loss last week to UT Martin. However, the Redhawks -- a season out from the program's first OVC championship and playoff berth -- will be back at home this Saturday with a 1 p.m. matchup against Central Methodist.

The Redhawks are now 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. While Southeast won't be repeating in the playoffs this year, the Redhawks are ready to finish the season strong with the final three games of the year all taking place at Houck Stadium.

"There's nothing better than coming home," senior quarterback Matt Scheible said. "We're definitely going to play our hearts out. Our fans have been great, and they deserve that."

We'd like to encourage fans in the area to support the Redhawks by wearing red this Friday. Red Fridays are celebrated every Friday before a Southeast home football or basketball game.

Saturday's game will also have a couple of special features. In honor of the Dig for Life campaign, Saturday's game is a Pink Up day. Southeast will hand out 5,000 pink foam sticks to fans attending the game. It's also Take a Kid to a Game day. Youth 14 and under who are supervised by an adult receive free admission.

Pregame tailgating will start at 11 a.m. in front of the stadium and will end at 12:45 p.m.

An announced crowd of 6,800 attended the Redhawks previous home football game during homecoming weekend. We encourage the community to consider attending Saturday's game and take part in the special promotions.

Go Redhawks.
