Cape Central math students take honors

Southeast Missouri State University was the scene of numerous awards for Cape Central High School math students during the Math Field Day event last month. Competing with 575 students from 27 schools, Cape Central students brought home 10 out of a possible 44 awards in the individual events. In the team events, Central students brought home 3 out of 7 possible awards.

The Geometry Team took 1st place. Members were: Vikas Rudrappa, Aaron Mehner, Alex Mehner, and Sydney Messerli. The medley team took 2nd place. Members were: Prithvi Rudrappa, Lars Monia, Mary Dohogne, and Kelsey Martin. In the problem solving event, CHS took 3rd place overall! The problems were worked on throughout the contest by all Central students who participated in the day's events.

In the individual contests, the results were: Lizzie Nussbaum -- 1st place in Word Problems; Vikas Rudrappa -- 1st place in Geometry Open; Owen Hill -- 1st place in Number Theory; Lars Monia -- 1st place in Non-Routine Problem Solving Level 2; Sydeny Messerli -- 2nd place in 10th grade Geometry; Prithvi Rudrappa -- 2nd place in Analytic Geometry and 2nd place in Calculus; Kelsey Martin -- 2nd place in Trigonometry and 3rd place in Probability; Aaron Mehner -- 3rd place in Geometry Open.

"All students who attended Math Field Day did an excellent job and they should all be congratulated," said Caroline Thornburgh, mathematics teacher at Central High School.
