Cape students participate in mooonbuggy race

Cape Central High School Seniors Lars Monia and Mary Dohogne, pictured above sitting on their moonbuggy, along with Freshman Kendra Kelch and Cape Career and Technology Center Instructor Collin Sheridan, standing, travelled to Huntsville, AL, earlier this month for the 18th Annual Great Moonbuggy Race. The international college and high school competition requires students to apply engineering, construction, and communication skills on a simulated moon surface course. Monia and Dohogne drove the buggy around the 1200 meter course in six minutes and thirty-eight seconds, placing nineteenth in the high school division and thirty-fifth overall. The team and its 89 other competitors were also treated to a night of Q&A with the engineers and astronauts who put the original LRV (Lunar Roving Vehicle) on the moon 40 years ago. The students said that this was one of their most exciting and memorable events from high school.
