Kohlfeld/Seesing

Cape Girardeau lost two great men recently in Leo Kohlfeld and J.T. Seesing.

Leo Kohlfeld was the founder of Kohlfeld Distributing in Jackson. After working his way up in the William B. Schott Distributing company, Kohlfeld bought the distributor. One of his business accomplishments was building the popularity of the Stag beer brand in Southeast Missouri. His company has now grown to offer more than 180 beers and nearly 100 nonalcoholic products. Kohlfeld served on several boards within the beer industry. More importantly, his company -- now run by his sons, Mike and Mark -- has been invested in improving the community.

J.T. Seesing was a key figure in Cape Girardeau's aviation history. Under his guidance, the Cape Girardeau airport transformed from a military airfield to a civilian airport. Seesing was one of the partners in the Consolidated School of Aviation, later renamed Cape Central Airways. The company provided services such as fueling and aircraft maintenance. Seesing is also remembered as the founder/charter member of Missouri Pilots Club and founder/charter member of the Cape Girardeau Pilots and Owners Association.

Both men were well liked and hard working people. While their business accomplishments were many, each was also an active volunteer in the community.

The legacies left by the two men are proud ones.
