Above is a link to gay bars in Washington DC. Scrolling through the list you will find Local 16 where Tommy had a fundraiser at the beginning of June. With all the places to host a fundraiser in DC I am left to wonder why Tommy choose a gay bar only days after he came out in support of the repeal of "Don't ask, Don't tell" allowing gays to serve openly in the military. It seems our Tommy Boy is an opportunist at every turn.

Tommy is not in favor of discriminating against ANY American citizen...especially those that serve with conviction and honor. Having to lie about who you are goes against the HONOR CODE all servicemen and women live by.

If Tommy were elected to Congress he would be a member of the Democratic Caucus. Democrats are in control of the Congress. The party in control of Congress elects the Speaker from amoung their rank and file members. As a member of the Democratic Caucus, Tommy would vote for a fellow caucus member to be the Speaker.

Thats how a Speaker is elected and that is why Tommy would vote for Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

If elected, Sowers will do as he is told by his chosen party. He does have corporate ties....the Democratic Party. Politicians join political parties for one reason, the party's influence and money. The Party expects and demands of it's members to repay the party with their loyalty. If elected, his party will demand that he cast his vote for Nancy P. for Speaker of the House. This, Sowers will do, as he will do with anything else his party tells him to do.

Wash DC politics is a game, and that's the way the game is played. To retain his power in DC (if elected), Sowers will play the game.

Hey clown, obviously wbowen is not questioning the service of the veterans in this district and the extent of wbowen's service has squat to do with anything.

Quite frankly I'm wondering why Mr. Sowers left the military also. Thirteen years of commissioned service and I still haven't met a field grade officer that was leaving, on good terms, prior to completing 20 years of service. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm saying it doesn't happen often.

Since you asked, I have 20+ years of service in the Army Reserve, including tours in Iraq and Bosnia, and time as a company and battalion commander. My question is legitimate; I am sure Mr. Sowers had good grounds to leave, and I would like to hear them. Officers resign their commissions or transfer to the reserves or National Guard for personal, financial, or family reasons, or if their careers dead end in the military. Since most officers who make it past 10 years in uniform stay until they are eligible for retirement, I am curious. As he has made his career a key selling point in his campaign, he should provide us with a more complete Army biography, perhaps including officer evaluations. He won two Bronze Stars, as he never fails to point out. I am sure providing more information about his career, and why it ended, would help his campaign.

He isn't playing the game now why should he play it in the future? He isn't anyone's rubber stamp (Emerson was Bush's rubber stamp and that worked out SO well). He doesn't take corporate money (Emerson has taken over $600,000). Emerson is a living, breathing, entrenched and gold plated example of THE GAME!

Tommy supports Health Insurance Reform. So do most Southeast Missourians. Our system is BROKEN and the GOP have done nothing to fix it. Roy Blunt was in charge of the GOP Health Care Working Group and presented nothing. Nothing. The current bill is a train wreck and everyone knows it. It's a wreck because of special interest and lobbyists. But it was a first step and it will take people like Tommy who don't work for special interest to FIX IT and make it work for everyone.

I am sure that in 1950 a large percentage of the officer corps SAID they were against integrating the Armed Forces. Many SAID it would destroy our military. You obviously approve of discrimination. How much discrimination are you willing to support? Segregated schools? Where do you draw the line?

With the exception of wbowen, the above posts sound shrill, fearful and anxious. They are laced with intolerance, they show a lack of critical thinking, they resonate with a need to bash a man who has succeeded in everything he has ever tried. He will succeed in this campaign and he will succeed in representing this district.

Sending the same people to DC year after year and expecting a different result is crazy!

Markham, All your comments are just swaying my vote away from Tommy Sowers. I am a Veteran of 20 years of active duty service. I was in the trenches as an enlisted. Most officers are silver spooned who are use to taking credit for others work. That is an honest question of why he would leave the Military after 11 years.

This boot on the ground campaign spending one day in each spot. I have an ideal try and make it with a limited income with two young mouths to feed. I don't think he has ever been in a situation of despair and wonder where his next meal was coming from. It bugs me that someone thinks they are living like poor folk because they play like one for a day or two. I have been a situation of not eating so my Kids would have enough to eat. This was even after I retired. Living off retirement which is only a fraction of what I made while active duty. half went to rent the other half was for food and utilities. It took 14 months for my Veterans disability to come through and it was grossly underrated. It has taken me five years fighting with the VA to get close to what I deserve.
