Robin Carnahan Pushes Extreme Anti-Energy Plan

More than forty days after the huge Gulf oil spill disaster, liberal Democrat Robin Carnahan has come up with an extreme plan to cut off major domestic energy supplies, send more money to foreign oil dictators who oppose and even hate America, destroy an estimated 120,000 U.S. jobs and shove the wobbly economy toward an even deeper recession.

"Robin Carnahan's plan for big cuts to domestic energy production would have a devastating impact on our economy with tens of thousands of lost jobs at a time of nearly 10 percent unemployment," said Blunt spokesperson Rich Chrismer. "This plan will only increase our dependence on foreign oil from countries that hate the United States. If federal regulators find that any offshore drilling operation is putting workers and the environment at risk we ought to take action immediately. But shutting down all new drilling as Robin Carnahan has proposed is extreme."

According to The Associated Press, Carnahan says, "all new drilling should be put on hold" for an unspecified period of time.

Estimates show the deepwater drilling moratorium alone will kill more than 42,000 direct and indirect jobs in the short term and the long term impact of the plan will kill 120,000 jobs.

"Roy Blunt supports more American energy of all kinds including wind, solar, oil, natural gas, nuclear, alternative fuels and next-generation energy technologies," Chrismer said. "We need to learn the lessons from the oil spill disaster and this is why Roy Blunt supports an intensive reexamination of existing safety standards with in-field inspections, a thorough review of safety plans in case of emergency, fast-tracking innovative local solutions like berms, firing those bureaucrats who failed to do their jobs and a full review of this disaster that killed 11 workers."
