Christmas came early to Alma Schrader Elementary School, 1360 Randol, Cape Girardeau, when boxes of dictionaries, thesauruses, storage shelving, ink cartridges and other supplies totaling $10,000 began arriving, thanks to the generosity of the school's PTA organization. "We were overwhelmed," said Principal Ruth Ann Orr. "These were not frivolous items, but much needed things such as non-fiction guided reading sets. To have purchased these items would have totally depleted our discretionary budget. We are most fortunate to have the PTA's support!" Pictured above with new dictionaries and shelving units are Brent King, PTA Treasurer; Robin McCollough, Vice President; Deneke' Murphy, President; and Angel Hillman, Historian. Murphy said funds were raised through a golf tournament, chili supper and candle sales, along with support from Dominoes, Culvers, Papa John's and Beef-o-Brady's.
