Local Rock Band, What We Call Sanity, Wins Battle of the Bands in Memphis

Local rock band "What We Call Sanity" emerged victorious Friday, September 4th at a Battle of the Bands competition held at the New Daisy on Beale st. in Memphis Tennessee. The contest was put on by Gorrilla Productions, which puts on Battles all over the United States. The comepetition included eight bands many of them were from the Memphis area. The bands playing were, Pullarius, Slick Sid, Picking Empty Locks, We Left With Dignity, Enerprise Friday, Amongst the Outlaws and Gargatuan.

What We Call Sanity is a band of students that attend Scott City schools. The band consists of singer and rythem guitarist Jake Petitt age 13, drummer Trestin Strong (13), bassist Iseriah Roberts (16) and lead guitarist Zack Payne (16). The band has been together for about a year and have been writing and recording their own music. The band has played at many venues around Southeast Missouri, including the Mississippi Mudhouse which they will be appearing on September 25th with "Legends Never Die".

The band plays mainly rock and heavy metal music. They played seven of their own songs and also an encore cover of the Nirvana hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

When asked about the experience lead guitarist, Zack Payne said, "It was a really exciting experience going to Memphis and playing at a huge venue like the New Daisy and being able to say you won." Zack also stated, "The mood and sounds of the music the street musicians played really pumped me up for the competition."

Bass player, Iseriah Roberts, said, "They had never played in such a huge venue, it was very intense."

Trestin Strong, the drummer of the band stated, "The sound in the New Daisy was great and it was awesome playing and winning at the birthplace of Rock and Roll!"

Guitarist and singer Jake Petitt said, "It was an honor to play with the bands in the battle at the home town of Elvis." He also stated, "We are just getting started and want to stay hungry because our band loves to play music and entertain people."
