P&G helps local food bank

Your coverage of Procter & Gamble's 40 years in Southeast Missouri ("Product powerhouse" April 21) was a welcome article spotlighting the positive impact of a local business. I would like to congratulate Procter & Gamble and thank it for the community support it has provided over the years.

Many in our region may not be aware of the fact that Procter & Gamble regularly donates household paper products, cleaning products, diapers, shampoo and infant soaps to Southeast Missouri Food Bank. These products go to over 150 not-for-profit hunger relief organizations throughout 16 counties in Southeast Missouri, which in turn, distribute to those families and individuals in need.

In 2008, Southeast Missouri Food Bank saw a 29 percent increase in need throughout our service area, and we strive to increase our distribution of food and household products annually. With the continued support of local businesses like Procter & Gamble, Southeast Missouri Food Bank is able to help alleviate the burden of poverty among our neighbors.
