Reclaiming streets

Three churches in south Cape Girardeau -- True Vine Ministries, Freedom Road Ministries, New Horizons Missionary Church -- are organizing a march through neighborhoods to reclaim the streets that have become hot spots for crime ranging from drug deals to arson to prostitution. The march is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ranney Park.

The crime problems in south Cape Girardeau are beyond simple solutions, and Saturday's march isn't intended to be an easy fix. But it will call attention to the concerns of law-abiding residents of the area. And if parade marchers come from other parts of the city, it will be an indication that they recognize this is a problem that ultimately has an impact on the entire city -- that it's "our" problem and not "their" problem.

Organizers are looking for 1,000 marchers Saturday. Following the march there will be a community organizing meeting for those who want to stay. This is a good opportunity to get involved in solving a serious problem in our city.

Awesome,The fact that these men are doing SOMETHING to reclaim their neighborhood. Nay sayers may say big deal theyre going to walk thru south Cape. These people are Gods people, ALL CHRISTIANS PRAY for these leaders, our God,(the only God) is and awesome God. He can/will clean up the evil if we pray. If this clean up is important to you pray for its success 7 days in a row,God will know you are serious about it and WILL BLESS THIS EFFORT, 7 is a significant number to God,(see Bible for details

CAPE GIRARDEAU--Five people were murdered and one person drowned in South Cape early this morning. The events began when a disgruntled drunk shot and killed three of his friends over an argument regarding crack cocaine. The murderer then shot and killed a person driving by, stole her vehicle, and drove the vehicle at high rates of speed west on Bloomfield Road. The Cape Girardeau Police caught up with the suspect at West End Boulevard where the suspect ran over and killed a pedestrian and the pursuit continued to Kingshighway and onto Interstate 55. The police used stop sticks causing the vehicle to lose control and it wound up in the Diversion Channel--drowning the suspect.

Due to cold weather, the problem on Hanover Street has calmed down by itself..... not due to law enforcement activities. There should have been focus on this area whenit was warmer... when people were actually hanging around outside.
