No tears for Nathan Cooper

To the editor:Former state representative Nathan Cooper put everyone at risk of losing our lives by some unqualified truck drivers. He used his office for personal gain. He isn't the first. He won't be the last.

Cooper got caught by a man doing his job. In his mind, that's all Cooper thinks he did wrong. My take on the Cooper story is thank God we had an alert, dedicated public servant on duty who did his job: the border guard who smelled something rotten.

Let's not cry and wring our hands over poor Cooper's fate. He got caught. Let's not wonder if maybe we failed him. He got caught. Thank the border guard. Disregard all the crocodile tears and the "How did he go wrong?" questions by his fellow public servants. He got caught.

I hope the whistle blower isn't punished.
