Music in the City of Roses

The ninth annual City of Roses Music Festival will be held in downtown Cape Girardeau Friday and Saturday. Four stages will offer a variety of musical acts, from folk singers to classical and jazz ensembles and bluegrass to rock and hip-hop groups.

In addition, downtown nightclubs have booked their own bands for the weekend.

In all, nearly 60 acts and a burrito-eating contest will be presented from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 11 p.m. Saturday. Solo acts, duos and small ensembles will be offered at the gazebo in Courthouse Park. The other stages will be at the corner of Water Street and Broadway, the corner of Water Street and Themis and the corner of Water Street and Independence Street. All of this for the admission price of $3 per day.

In addition, the Cape Filmmakers Cooperative will show short films from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Jeremiah's.

Augmented by the "Mississippi River Tales" mural and sharing the spotlight with the new Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, Cape Girardeau's increasingly lively downtown is at its best during the City of Roses Music Festival.
