Time at school should be spent on class work

To the editor:

This is in response to those upset at Central High School for not providing study hall time for their children. These parents claim their children are being cheated and it's not fair that they are busy from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and still have homework to do when they get home.

If academics is such a concern and a priority for your children, do not allow them to get part-time jobs or participate in three sports and other extracurricular activities. All of those things are great, and I am very supportive of them. However, if they can't handle it, something needs to be cut back. It's an extremely simple concept. Leave the schools alone. It's not their fault. It's yours.

Here is another thought. School is designed for students to attend classes on a variety of subjects, take notes, soak in the knowledge provided and study on their own time. Why should students be allowed to use class time to study when they should be using that class time to actually attend class?
