Legal treatment of mentally ill is form of bigotry

To the editor:

I was astounded to find the "Objection to marriage" comment in Speak Out. The form of bigotry which expresses itself in people being unnecessarily cruel to others because of mental illness is one of the worst forms of bigotry in the United States today. When the legal system participates in treating injured persons worse than they treat criminals, we know that the bigotry is thick. Attempting to prohibit mentally ill people from getting married is, like bigotry, one of the most ignorant things I've heard in a long time. The bigotry is not appreciated.
