Nordenia's expansion

Last Thursday Gov. Jay Nixon visited Nordenia USA in Jackson, announcing the company's eligibility for more than $350,000 in state tax credits -- through the Missouri Quality Jobs program -- for creating 50 jobs at its facility off U.S. 61.

The expansion, which is set to be completed by year-end, will add 21,000 square feet to its facility, and the company plans to invest $20 million to $22 million over the next three to four years in construction and equipment for both the new and existing facilities.

In addition to the tax credits through the Missouri Quality Jobs program, Jackson received a $500,000 state grant for road and utility infrastructure at the Jackson Industrial Park. In June preliminary approval to issue up to $25 million in Chapter 100 revenue bonds for Nordenia was given by the Cape Girardeau County commissioners.

The economic climate does play a role in the success of a business, their willingness to expand and hire more individuals.
