The Semo Copperheads rallied together, in what was thought to be possibly there very last football game this season and defeated cross-town rivals the Jackson Apaches 38-28 in a hard fought battle. This win guarantee's them there very first play-off berth in team history. Considering this is the Copperheads first Season in the Central Plain Football League, that's an accomplishment and also something to be proud of. After a few hiccups this season against the, Kansas City Bulldogs 50-59, an extremely close game against previous year Conference champions Missouri Mustang 28-40,a very controversial loss to the Springfield Lightning 34-30, and a loss to the Junction City force in week 5. This currently leaves the Copperheads with a record of 6-4 going into the play-offs. Very rarely do you find a team that goes undefeated, and every good team goes through adversity, and only through adversity can a team become stronger and look at there mistakes. Which is what the Copperheads Led by Coach's David Hutch, and David Bertrand have had a chance to do. Look at there mistakes, work on them, and make them strengths rather then weaknesses. Currently the Copperheads have a few league leaders in the offensive and defensive category, so this has turned out to be a very well put together first year team, considering the luck of most first years sporting programs. The Copperheads Play-off game will be against the Springfield lightning. This is a team the Copperheads have beaten, but also a team they have fallen to, which will make this game full of intensity, teamwork, and all out great football. The last game played against the Lightning was at the opponents home field in Springfield, the game was at 10pm at night, the refs made very controversial calls, and it ended in a 30-34 loss in which the Copperheads still think about in the back of there minds, but with an opportunity to rewrite the loss once and for all in a Play-off game, the Copperheads are excited and grinning ear to ear for the opportunity. This combined with the fans from Sikeston, Cape Girardeau and surrounding cities, will make for an excellent football game on June 4, 2011.
