National merit semifinalists

When it comes to academic success, Cape Girardeau Central High School knows a thing or two.

This year three Central seniors -- Lessley Dennington, Blake Kidd and Noor Wadi -- were named National Merit Semifinalists.

Being named a National Merit Semifinalists is no small accomplishment. Out of the 1.5 million-plus students who took the PSAT last year, only 16,191 students around the nation qualified for the distinction. The three Cape Girardeau students will now compete to receive one of the 8,400 National Merit Scholarships.

In late November and early December, the Southeast Missourian featured all area three semifinalists. If you missed it, make sure to go back and read these interviews. Each student has unique talents and diverse plans for their future.

Lessley Dennington, a Missouri Scholars Academy attendee, plans to declare a pre-law major and would like to attend the University of Notre Dame.

Blake Kidd, a member of the high school's swimming and tennis teams, hopes to attend Northwestern University to study biochemistry.

Noor Wadi, fluent in three languages and semifluent in two others, is planning to study biomedical engineering and would like to do so at Washington University.

Congratulations to all three Central students.
