Bring back Millersville Post Office

To the editor:

The purpose of this letter is to convey how dissatisfied we are with the closing of the Millersville Post Office. Residents have been told the closing is temporary because of an increase in rent, but we also hear the U.S. Postal Service wants to make this closing permanent.

Those of us who get our mail by renting post office boxes now have to pick up our mail at the gas station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is not convenient for working families. And for those of us with mailboxes, our mail has been running a couple of hours later than usual. Got a package to mail? Get ready to drive to Jackson or Sedgewickville or Oak Ridge. What happened to customer service?

We were told at a meeting with postal officials that moving the modular building to a temporary site in Millersville would be the first priority. The fire department offered its building. Several other residents have offered buildings so that service and hours could remain the same. So why did postal officials shut it down?

Millersville is a good-sized community that continues to grow. We deserve a post office and all of its services with regular business hours. We do not appreciate the inconvenience the closing has caused, and we want our post office back in Millersville.

ALAN K. JONES, Millersville
