Senate must act to fix gun law

To the editor:

After briefly displaying some leadership by passing a license-to-carry gun law in 2003, the Republican-controlled Missouri Senate is wimping out by refusing to pass simple corrective language to bring that law into compliance with the state constitution. While 114 sheriffs hang vulnerable to lawsuits between conflicting requirements of the law, state Sen. Peter Kinder of Cape Girardeau says there is no pressing need to resolve it this year. There may not be a resolution to correct the problem if we continue to elect invertebrates to office. I hope the state legislators can do their duty to the state's law enforcement and spend the few moments needed to pass the language tweak, thereby taking the sheriffs off the hook.
