Toastmasters helps develop speaking skills

To the editor:

I have recently discovered one of Cape Girardeau's best-kept secrets. I got a promotion which requires giving instruction. I don't like speaking in front of people. A friend told me I should see if there was a Toastmasters Club in my area.

I looked at the Toastmasters International's Web site and found that the closest club to me was in Cape Girardeau. I contacted the club and found that it meets at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Church of Christ Annex, 328 S. West End Blvd.

The club helps people feel more comfortable speaking in public, and it helps good speakers become better. The Cape chapter is headed by three retired Southeast Missouri State University professors who do a great job at making anyone feel at home. The club is not there to make money, but to help people communicate better and to help in your leadership skills.

Give the club a try. I know it has helped me.
