Smaller districts in area do well on MAP tests

To the editor:

I read with interest your article on the performance of area schools on the Missouri Assessment Program tests. Your headline suggested that area schools are not performing well on the MAP tests, but the story only included data from three districts.

I would like to point out that after researching the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Web site, there were several small area schools that did well on the MAP tests in all areas in both elementary and high school. Congratulations to these schools: Delta, Bell City, Oran, Advance, Kelso and Leopold. I am sure there are others as well.

Accomplishments from smaller schools are often overlooked. These schools and communities should be proud of their accomplishments and the positive things schools do should be reported as well as the negative.
